3/11/2023 0 Comments Turn phone into audio spyThis shouldn’t be a problem for most, but maybe the app can get support for infinite nested notebooks in the future. ![]() Unfortunately, you can’t create more nested notebooks within a notebook, so you are only limited to a binder and a single notebook within it. Selecting a binder will take you to it, where you can then create individual notebooks in that binder for subcategories or subtopics. Each new binder that you create will get a default name “New Binder #,” but you can rename it (as well as anything else) by tapping on the blue arrow button. School, Work, Thoughts, Notes to Self, etc. Think of various topics or situations: e.g. With CaptureAudio, you can create various “binders” for your audio recordings. You can even create audio files in CaptureAudio file format (for CaptureAudio or CaptureNotes 2 import), or just the standard M4A file. There is also a Settings tab, where you can toggle options like the recording start tone, flag sets (including custom ones), backup your recordings, as well as restore them. You have three different ways to view your recordings: Binders, Notebooks, and Recordings. But it gives the app a unique feel, so it doesn’t bother me too much.ĬaptureAudio is very organized. I also enjoy the colors that are used, however, I’m not a big fan of the slight texture on the header bar and bottom toolbar. Everything is laid out in an easy-to-understand manner, and it’s so organized. The interface is clean, simple, and intuitive. Outside of PCMag, I write fiction, poetry, humor, and essays on culture.I had been testing this app out for a few weeks, and I have to say that I love it. Though I love that I get to write about the tech industry every day, it’s touched by gender, racial, and socioeconomic inequality and I try to bring these topics to light. I put great care into writing gift guides and am always touched by the notes I get from people who’ve used them to choose presents that have been well-received. I’ve had the pleasure of talking tech with Jeff Goldblum, Ang Lee, and other celebrities who have brought a different perspective to it. I strive to explain topics that you might come across in the news but not fully understand, such as NFTs and meme stocks. ![]() Or maybe you’ve just seen my Bernie meme. You might have seen me on TV talking about these topics or heard me on your commute home on the radio or a podcast. I’ve been at PCMag since 2011 and have covered the surveillance state, vaccination cards, ghost guns, voting, ISIS, art, fashion, film, design, gender bias, and more. My title is Senior Features Writer, which is a license to write about absolutely anything if I can connect it to technology (I can). One thing to note: For any apps that also handle transcription, there are privacy concerns (Opens in a new window)-so proceed with caution when recording anything that you want to remain confidential. Many of the apps are free, and the rest are relatively low-cost compared with purchasing a digital recorder. These apps range from basic, easy-to-operate choices to ones with a full range of features, including AI-based transcription, that pros will appreciate. I put in my own recommendations, talked to my colleagues at PCMag about what they use, and researched what else is out there. When you search "voice recorders" in an app store, it can be hard to sort through all of the choices to find one that has exactly the features you need. I usually have two or three, since I rely on them for interviews and transcription. Even if you're not on this list, having one on your home screen can come in handy. ![]()
